Cleaning your pool cover
Cleaning your pool cover is an important part of pool maintenance. It can help you keep your pool water clean, prevent algae and bacteria growth, and extend the life of your cover. Depending on the type of pool cover you have, there are different ways to clean it. Here are some general steps you can follow:
- Remove the debris: Use a leaf blower or a broom to remove any leaves, twigs, or other debris from the surface of the pool cover. You can also use a hose to spray off any stubborn spots. Please DO NOT use a jet washer as you can spray off the UV protection that’s on the pool cover material.
- Spray on a cleaning solution: Use a mild detergent or a pool cover cleaner that attaches to your hose and spray the cleaning solution on the cover. You can also mix water and Omo washing powder for a deeper cleaning, but be careful not to damage the cover material.
- Brush the pool cover: Use a rubber brushor a broom with soft bristles to scrub the cover and spread the cleaning solution evenly. Pay attention to any stains or spots that need more attention.
- Rinse and drain the cover: Use clean water to rinse off the cover and use a pool cover pump or a bucket to drain the excess water. Make sure the cover is completely dry before storing it.
- Detach and remove the cover: Use a safety cover installation rod or a hex key to detach the cover from the anchors or the tracks. Pull the cover off the pool and flip it over to clean the other side. Repeat the steps above to clean the underside of the cover.
- Let the cover dry: This is a very important step that you should not skip. Let the cover dry completely in the sun or in a well-ventilated area before folding and storing it. A wet cover can attract mold, mildewand cause bleaching due to chlorine in the swimming pool water, which can damage the cover and affect the pool water quality.
- Store the cover properly: Fold the cover neatly and store it in a storage bag or a container. Keep it in a cool and dry place away from direct sunlight, heat, or moisture. Avoid placing any heavy objects on top of the cover to prevent tearing or stretching.
I hope this helps you keep your pool cover clean and long-lasting.
